The picturesque Seaside Park in Gagra is a real symbol of the resort. The park is located on the coast between the gorges Gagrypsh and Joekvara and stretches along the sea for 6 kilometres, the total area of the park is 14 hectares.
Seaside Park was founded in 1902. It was created by architect Shervinsky Sr. and master of landscape park construction - agronomist-decorator K. Brener. The park was created as a unique arboretum, for this purpose plants from different parts of the world were brought here.
Visiting Seaside Park, you can plunge into a wonderful world of magical tropical nature, where the salty smell of the sea interrupts the delicate and light fragrance of exotic flowers. There are many unusual plants growing around the paths laid out throughout the park. In total, there are over 400 species of different plants, most of which are evergreen. Of the many local and imported here from other countries of the world ornamental vegetation deserve special attention: date palms, common in the Canary Islands, American magnolias, mallows from Syria, coconut palms brought from South America, etc. Rare varieties of plants such as chamerops, candy tree, Himalayan cedars, agave and oleander can be found in Seaside Park.
All the splendour of the Seaside Park is complemented by the original system of park ponds. Large ponds harmoniously alternate with small ponds and are connected by small streams. Important peacocks stroll along their banks and graceful swans scurry along the water surface.
Another attraction of the Seaside Park is a unique architectural monument - a temple built in the VI century. Currently, this temple houses a museum of ancient weapons of Abkhazia.
Over the past two years, the museum has been working on a number of projects in Abkhazia.
Over the last two decades, the Seaside Park was in a derelict state, but today there are active works on its improvement.
