Middleton Beach is a coastal area of Albany, located 4 km from the city centre. It is one of the favourite holiday destinations for city dwellers and visiting tourists - you can stay here overnight in an RV in a special car park or in one of the many hotels.

Middleton Beach is bounded by Wollaston Road to the north, King George Strait to the east and Heritage Park Nature Park to the west and south. The permanent population of the neighbourhood is only 663.

The settlement of Middleton dates back to 1834, but it was not until the late 20th century that it became part of the larger city of Albany. In 1892, the first hotel for tourists was built on the Esplanade waterfront, but it burned to the ground as early as 1908. The rebuilt hotel was opened in 1911, by which time a road had been built between Albany and Middleton Beach, which encouraged the influx of holidaymakers to this cosy place. The tourism industry began to grow and flourish. The building of the first hotel was demolished several times in the 20th century and other, more modern hotels were built in its place.

But, of course, the main attraction of Middleton Beach is the beach of the same name - the main holiday destination for Albany residents, offering a variety of recreational services. The waters here are calm - the King George Strait protects the beach from the high waves of the Southern Ocean. In summer, a pontoon bridge - a floating structure withstanding several dozens or even hundreds of people - is installed right in the water of the strait. On the shore there are cafes, restaurants and grocery shops for every taste. In spring, whales migrating south often enter the waters of the strait to rest here. Sometimes they approach the shore at 20-30 metres, and this causes genuine delight for everyone who witnesses the amazing spectacle.
