Situated in a picturesque countryside setting amidst vineyards, the Moorilla Museum of Antiquities preserves some of the finest antiquities in the world. The Moorilla Museum of Antiquities houses one of Australia's finest collections of artefacts from the past.

This private museum, built on a small 5 hectare peninsula, is one of the most popular destinations for visitors to Hobart, who wish to learn about the history of ancient civilisations. The museum's collection is valued at $10 million. It features, among other things, the African Gallery with gold bullion, sculptures and beaded folk art. The Egyptian Gallery features ancient sarcophagi and other artefacts, while the Pre-Columbian Gallery displays gold objects, ceramics and sculptures from Central America. In addition, the museum has an extensive collection of books on various aspects of ancient civilisations, culture and religion. Any book is available for perusal by prior authorisation.

The museum building itself is the former home of famous Tasmanian resident Claudio Alcorso - philanthropist, winemaker and patron of the arts. Near the museum on the banks of the Derwent River, there are several barbecue and picnic areas, cafés and restaurants. The nearby Moorilla Estate offers local wine.
