The National Dinosaur Museum is the largest permanent exhibition of prehistoric artefacts in the southern hemisphere, located in the town of Gold Creek Village near Canberra. The museum's exhibition tells the story of the evolution of life on Earth, with a particular emphasis on the history of the existence and extinction of dinosaurs. Around 55,000 people visit the museum every year, making it one of the most popular in the country. In the gift shop, you can purchase one of the vast array of authentic fossils with thousands of years of history.
Founded in 1993, the museum has continually expanded its palaeontological collections while staying abreast of cutting-edge scientific discoveries. Today, the museum features 23 whole dinosaur skeletons and more than 300 fossilised remains.
Focusing on education and entertainment, the museum offers a wide range of opportunities to explore its exhibits, from guided tours to puppet shows and themed parties for children and teens.
The museum's collections invite you on a journey through time - from the very beginning of Earth's history to the emergence of modern animals. This journey tells you about the development of life on our planet and what amazing creatures the dinosaurs were.
The museum also publishes Time of the Dinosaurs, a 4-monthly magazine covering the latest discoveries and advances in palaeontology, and eDinosauria, an extensive encyclopaedia on prehistoric life.
