Just an hour's drive from Hobart in the crystal clear waters of the Denison River lies Snow Range Trout Farm. It is one of the most popular holiday destinations for residents of the surrounding towns and villages and and a pilgrimage destination for avid anglers.

The fishery ponds cover an area of 160 hectares in southwest Tasmania in the enchanting Huon Valley. Here you can try your luck at catching trout or salmon. Ponds of varying sizes are home to rainbow and lake trout as well as Atlantic salmon. From morning to evening, visitors compete in their fishing skills. On the territory of the farm there are also trout and salmon hatcheries, which produce about a million salmon eggs and about 100 thousand trout eggs per year.

School field trips like to come here. Younger students get to feed the fish and get an up-close look at the fish. For older pupils have the opportunity to learn hands-on about water quality monitoring and the different stages of the fish life cycle, fish farming and the protection of wild populations. Each pupil can try to catch a fish with a fishing rod.
