The Sydney Aquarium is definitely one of the best aquariums in the world and is one of the must-see places to visit when in Sydney. It is is located on the east side of Darling Harbour near Pyrmont Bridge.

Today, the aquarium is home to more than 650 species of marine life, representing Australia's fauna - that's over 6,000 fish and marine animals! The main "lure" for visitors are two giant tunnels - one with sharks and seals - through which there are special walkways for people. It's said that when a huge tiger shark swims over your head, it's an unforgettable experience for the rest of your life!

Another highlight of the aquarium is an exhibition dedicated to the Great Barrier Reef and its inhabitants. If you can’t visit this miracle of nature, stretching for 2 thousand km along the eastern coast of Australia, you can look into the Sydney Aquarium to get an idea of the life of a unique ecosystem. The exhibit totalling approximately 370 square metres was opened in 1998.

Public favourites are the Australian fur seals, which can be observed through the transparent walls of the underwater tunnel or from above from the open-air viewing platform. Small penguins, the inhabitants of the Southern Ocean exposition, live next to the seals.

One of the most unusual inhabitants of the aquarium are the dugongs, which used to live in Sea World Park on Australia's Gold Coast, but in 2008 they were moved to Sydney. Together with them in a pool romantically named "Mermaid Lagoon", the porpoises swim with them. They can also be seen from both above-water platforms and from underground tunnels.
