The arsenal was built in the mid-seventeenth century, designed by architect Antonio Solari, as a storehouse for weapons to be distributed to the population in case of another threat of attack by the Turks. It now houses more than 30,000 weapons.

The ground floor is dedicated to heavy shotguns, flintlock pistols and rifles. Field and naval deck guns can also be seen here. The first floor exhibits the arms of the cavalry and infantry, as well as many pistols. On the third floor you can examine the arms of the aristocracy, tournament weapons and battle armour. The fourth floor displays the musical instruments of military bands.
