The Church of Our Lady of Bruges is one of the most imposing Gothic churches in Belgium, built between the 14th and 15th centuries, with a pointed brick roof, 122 metres high, and an observation deck overlooking the city.
The exterior of the Gothic Church of Our Lady of Bruges is one of the most impressive churches in Belgium.
Over the years of its construction, the Cathedral of Our Lady has absorbed different architectural styles, which is typical of Flemish churches built before the second half of the 16th century. The exterior Gothic of the church harmoniously combines with the interior in Baroque style with elements of Rococo and Romanesque style. The massive oak pulpit with a carved balustrade is separated from the marble choir by a graceful wrought iron gate, under which the organ rises. In the centre there is a crucifix of the 16th century. In the Cathedral there are many works of art, among which you can see the work of Michelangelo Buonarotti - "Madonna and Child", made of marble - one of the most beautiful statues on earth. Only a genius could reflect in stone the pain of a mother - the image on the beautiful woman's face.
The church choir is adorned with the splendour of Rubens' paintings, and the two sarcophagi belonging to the Burgundian King Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary are the most sumptuous in Europe.
