Punjari National Park covers an area of 275,000 hectares, located 45 kilometres north of Natitingu. The unspoilt remote wilderness area represents the fauna of West Africa. Visitors can observe lions, leopards, elephants, baboons and hippos. The optimum time to organise a game drive is towards the end of the dry season (November to February), when animals begin to migrate between water sources.
Bounded by the waters of the Punjari River, the national park of the same name is home to large groups of animals such as buffalo, elephants, various species of antelope and West African lions. The park is also known for its diverse avifauna. The reserve is part of a complex of extensive protected areas in Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger. The hills and cliffs of Atakor in a north-westerly direction form one of the most picturesque areas of Benin and a remarkable panorama of the park. Waterfalls, wooded scenery and good roads make for an enjoyable drive.
