Red Lake Laguna Colorada, one of the most visited places in Bolivia. Tourists from all over the world are eager to see the stunning beauty of the salty, shallow lake, completely red in colour. The lagoon is located in the Eduardo Avaroa National Park on the Altiplano Plateau. The waters of the lake have such a bright, unique colour because of the presence of sodium tetrabornoacid, or otherwise borax - salts of pentavalent iron. It was formed as a result of centuries of deposition of various seaweeds. The lagoon is sometimes referred to as Red Lake. Interestingly, the colour of the lagoon changes depending on the weather, most often due to clouds. The lake can play with different colours, from dark shades of red, to the complete opposite of green or yellow. Besides being amazingly beautiful in its own right, Laguna Colorada is also a paradise for the thousands of pink flamingos. Their nesting ground here numbers over 30,000 birds. Their plumage takes on a more colourful shade against the red waters, so the flamingos seem to be fantastically beautiful birds. Apart from them, the lake area is inhabited by other birds such as parina chica, soca cornuda and other species of rare birds. From the animal world there are chinchillas, vicuñas and llamas. This unusual place attracts travellers from different countries, who, after seeing the Red Lagoon of Colorada, remain impressed by the colourful surroundings of the lake for a long time and leave with a huge number of spectacular photos.
