The Witches' Market or Mercado de Brujas is considered one of the most unusual attractions in the city of La Paz. You can find this colourful place on Jiminez and Linares streets. Interestingly, behind the market, where mostly local witches and shamans trade, the Iglesia de San Francisco Cathedral rises majestically. Tourists take great pleasure in strolling along the Mercado de Brujas. Even if you don't need llama embryos for witchcraft or healing, seeing them is a unique sight in itself. It is said that those who bury a llama embryo in the corner of their new home will keep themselves safe from harm forever. At the market you will find in abundance everything that can be useful in magic and ordinary life. A huge selection of amulets that bring happiness and good luck. Dried herbs, parts of frogs and insects, seeds and, other fascinating ingredients used in rituals and ceremonies are sold for various witchcraft manipulations. Many of these are for manipulating spirits. In addition to frogs and beetles, you will be offered unusually beautiful silver jewellery and local brightly coloured textiles. Of course, the view of the market, its specific goods and sellers is quite strange, but that's the beauty of it. Tourists are advised not to take photos in this place and not to take pictures of the goods. Otherwise, local witch doctors may unleash their wrath on them, and the people of La Paz consider it a bad omen.
