The Chapada dos Veadeiros Protected Area is located in the state of Goiás and covers an area of 655 square kilometres. The official date of foundation of the park is 11 January 1961. The park is a protected area of Brazil and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Chapada dos Veadeiros is a 1.8 billion year old plateau. The average annual temperature is 24-26 degrees Celsius, the maximum does not exceed 42 Celsius, and the minimum does not fall below 4 degrees Celsius. The highest point is the peak Serra da Santana - 1691 metres above sea level. And the total altitude of the park ranges from 600 to 1650 metres above sea level. With these figures, the Chapada dos Veadeiros is the highest plain in central Brazil.
Among the rocks of the protected area, quartz is prominent, in some places you can find crystals that have risen to the surface. Also in the territory of the Chapada dos Veadeiros there are a large number of waterfalls. The largest of them is the Rio Preto Falls. Its height is 120 metres.
The flora of the park is represented by numerous plants of wooded savannahs. Separately orchid family can be singled out, in Chapada dos Veadeiros there are about 25 of its representatives. There are also a large number of pepper trees, palm trees and many other plants in the protected area.
The protected area is inhabited by swamp deer, armadillos, belligerent jaguars, tapirs. Vultures and toucans predominate among the birds.
