Serra do Catimbau is a national park located in the state of Pernambuco. It was formed in 2002. Currently, the total area of Serra do Catimbau is 62300 hectares. The park is on the list of areas of special biological importance in Brazil. The reason was the caatinga site, located on its territory, one of the surviving ones today.

Another distinctive feature of the national park are the artefacts and rock paintings from Brazil's prehistoric era. The approximate age of most of the Serra do Catimbau artefacts found in the area is around 6,000 years old. Currently, archaeologists have discovered more than 30 historical monuments in the park. Therefore, the territory of Serra do Catimbao is rightly called the archaeological park of Brazil, the second after Serra da Capivara.

Speaking of caatinga, it is worth making a small clarification. The territory of the caatinga are a white forest (in Portuguese, Caatinga translates as "white forest"). The total area of Caatinga in the country is 750,000 square kilometres. It is, approximately 11% of Brazil's total land area. Often, these areas are engaged in raising cattle and crop production (grapes, melon, papaya). Occasionally, there is a severe drought in the Caatinga areas.

In general, the territory of caatinga is similar in many ways to the African savannah. The reason for this similarity is geography. Karting is located in a zone of 2 seasons: a dry season lasting up to nine months and a rainy season lasting for about three months. The rainfall here is irregular. Therefore, almost all areas of caatinga are in constant need of reservoirs, desalination plants and a modern irrigation system.

As for the flora, it is dominated by low-growing deciduous trees, cacti, succulents, dry grasses, and thorny shrubs.
