The Mausoleum of the 72 Martyrs was erected in Huanghuagang Park to honour the 72 men of the revolutionary movement led by Dr Sun Yat-sen. They died in March 1911 in a brutal battle.
The cost of building the mausoleum was borne by Chinese from all over the world, regardless of the country in which they lived. Every Chinese person considered it an honour to contribute money to the construction costs. The mausoleum is located on Xianlichzhonglu Street.
The structure was completed in 1918, and it stands as one of the most famous monuments to China's revolution in the pre-communist period. During the design and construction of the mausoleum, various ideas and symbols of architecture were used to represent freedom and democracy.
Installed in Hanhuagang Park, located on the Yellow Flower Hill, the memorial attracts many visitors with its solemnity and stunning architectural style. Here you will see many symbols calling for independence and democracy, and the top of the mausoleum is topped by a scaled-down replica of the Statue of Liberty.
