The ancient Luis de Camões Park with its grottoes like the Suzhou Gardens has been perfectly preserved to this day and is a popular attraction in Macau. The name of the park, atypical for the Celestial Empire, came in honour of the Portuguese famous poet who visited this city more than once. In the grotto there is a sculptural monument to Luis de Camões.

The park was first owned by a rich Portuguese merchant, a great lover of birds, who placed in the park original buildings that resembled bird's nests. Later, in the 13th century, the park became the property of a British company, and it became the property of the Macau city authorities only after 100 years.

The state status received by the park allowed to give it the name of the poet who lived here for a long time. The grottoes were the poet's favourite place. It is possible that one of his poetic works "The Soul of Portugal" was written here. And at the very beginning of the XIX century, three centuries later, in the grotto favourite by the poet was installed, which is still there today, a bust.

The local population has long used the park for chess battles, leisurely strolls and other favourite activities, to which the centuries-old trees, benches by the fountains, and amazing Chinese pavilions. People also traditionally come here to release special ornamental birds.

In the middle of the park there is a sculpture called "Embrace", the symbolic name of which reflects the unity of the Chinese and Portuguese cultures.

The great variety of exotic plants, the marvellous view of the city and the wonderful sculptures make Luís de Camões Park unique. Tourists who visit this magnificent place will surely be enchanted by the peaceful atmosphere that reigns here.
