The Shanghai Museum was established in 1952. It is located in People's Square in the centre of Shanghai and is dedicated to the art of ancient China. Every tourist interested in a cultural holiday can visit this unique place, which houses about 120,000 important historical exhibits.
The museum building itself is built according to Taoist traditions. The base of the museum is made in the form of a large square, which symbolises the earth. And on it is a spherical dome symbolising the sky.
Inside the building is divided into 4 floors. In total, the museum is equipped with 3 exhibition halls and 11 galleries. Each room introduces the visitor to a particular type of art of ancient China.
The museum has an impressive collection of bronze items. In total, there are 400 such exhibits. This metal has always been especially valued in China. By the way, one of the three "transparent" bronze mirrors of the Ming dynasty is kept here.
Shanghai Museum has an extensive collection of ceramics and crockery. Some pieces date back to the Neolithic period. In addition, the museum has a large number of items made of jade, which is considered a symbol of wealth in China and has always been especially honoured in this country.
The galleries exhibit the best examples of Chinese painting and calligraphy, there is a hall with Chinese furniture of the highest quality, the Shanghai collection of which is considered one of the best in the world.
