Yuesyu Park is one of the scenic spots in Guangzhou, China. Yuesyu is spread over an area of 94 hectares. It is the largest park in the city. Every spring and autumn, large exhibitions and chrysanthemum fairs are held here.
Yuesyu Park has many interesting and unique objects, making it one of the attractions of Southern China. There is a sculpture of the Five Goats, considered the symbol of the city. This animal for the local people symbolises good luck and success. According to legend, in hard and hungry times, when the land did not yield fruit, five travellers on horseback came to the city. The unknown men distributed rice sprouts to the population and left, leaving the animals here. After that, prosperity came to the town. The statue of the Five Goats was erected in 1959.
The five-storey Zhenhai Tower is the last surviving fragment of ancient Guangzhou. It is all that remains of the old wall that surrounded the city. The watchtower was built in the Ming Dynasty, at the end of the 14th century, and has been rebuilt several times over six centuries. It is now used as a viewing platform, offering a beautiful panoramic view. Inside Zhenhai there is a museum, the exhibits of which reflect the centuries-old history of the city. It has been functioning since 1953.
In front of the Zhenhai Tower you can see the remains of twelve cannons. They are a reminder of the time of the occupation of the city by Anglo-French troops during the two Opium Wars, totalling 20 years (1840-1860).
Another famous monument in the park is the obelisk of Sun Yat-sen, China's first president and a famous revolutionary. The monument was built in 1929. The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall periodically hosts classical music concerts.
There are three picturesque artificial lakes on the territory of Yuesu - Nanxiu, Dongxiu and Beixiu. The lakes are connected to each other by small bridges decorated in traditional Chinese style. There are walking and jogging paths around the lakes.
Also for sports enthusiasts, the park has a stadium with a capacity of 30,000 seats, swimming pools and gyms.
