The Church of St Euphemia is considered the symbol of the city of Rovinj. It was built in the 18th century, and the facade, which is in Venetian style, was completed a century later.
The cathedral towers above the city. On the bell tower, which rises to a height of about sixty metres, you can see a tall statue of Saint Euphemia made of copper, this saint is considered the patron saint of Rovinj. The five-metre statue also functions as a weather vane. The relics of St Euphemia are still kept in the cathedral itself. From the top of the bell tower, visitors can enjoy a picturesque view of the old part of the city, the bay and the many islands.
The Cathedral in honour of St. Euphemia in Rovinj is rightly considered one of the main local attractions. It is recognised as the tallest building in the entire city. The newer building of this cathedral was built in the XVII century where the oldest church with the same name used to be located.
The Cathedral of St Euphemia can be classified as Baroque in architectural style. Although this temple is not characterised by a particularly luxurious interior decoration, neither is its appearance from the outside.
