The Dominican Monastery was founded on this site in the 13th century. It has been rebuilt several times and the present complex of buildings is in the Baroque style. The main attraction of the monastery is the central crucifixion and the wall fresco above the main altar by Paolo Veneziano.

The monastery museum contains works by masters of the Dubrovnik and Venetian school of painting from the 13th to 17th centuries, including the painting "Baptism of Christ" by Lovro Dobričević (mid-15th century), as well as religious objects, precious jewellery and vestments of the clergy.

In the part of the Dominican Monastery where the chapel of St Sebastian was in the 15th century, there is the Sebastian Gallery. Here works by contemporary artists are exhibited.
