The Ethnographic Museum was founded in 1910 as the first ethnographic museum in Croatia. Throughout the museum's existence, seven permanent exhibitions were held. In 1910 and 1919, they were presented in different buildings of the local school.

In 1924, the museum moved to the building of the former town hall of the town. It is the most beautiful building on the People's Square, and was built in the 14th century in the Gothic style. It still houses the Ethnographic Museum. The museum's exposition is mainly dedicated to the Dalmatian region, primarily its crafts and trades, although it also includes items from other parts of Croatia and neighbouring countries.

The museum contains almost all typical folk costumes and jewellery of the region, both male and female. Traditionally, these costumes are extremely complex and quite unique in design. Richly and variously presented are the products of folk crafts - crockery, knitted items, handicrafts - wood carving, wicker baskets, footwear. Here are collected samples of economic activity for almost two centuries.

An interesting part of the exhibition is the presented interiors of Split houses from the late 19th and early 20th century. The museum will also delight every visitor with a fabulous collection of wooden chests with complex and interesting designs.

In short, the museum's collection of wooden trunks is the most interesting part of the exhibition.

In short, the museum is a great place to learn more about the culture and history of Croatia, its Dalmatia region and soak up the spirit of "that time". Pay your attention to the delicate ceramics, neatly and beautifully embroidered folk costumes and reconstructed rooms of typical rural houses.
