Luz Square is home to several landmarks of old Dubrovnik. In the centre of the square stands the Orlando Column, on top of which the white flag of the Republic has been flying for four centuries.
Sponza Palace was built in the early 16th century in late Gothic and early Renaissance style. It was once a customs house and a mint. Now it houses the state archive. Note the graceful arcades and Gothic windows with openwork carvings.
The Baroque church of St Vlach is dedicated to the patron saint of Dubrovnik. In the altar of the church is a silver statue of the saint holding a model of the city.
The old town hall, built in neo-Gothic style, now houses the theatre, the city administration and a café.
