Those wishing to discover the delights of not only land Cuba, but also its underground treasures, should definitely visit the caves located in the Matanzas area. Among the most popular objects for excursion stand out the Saturn Cave, which is located near the resort of Varadero. It is not very large in size, its depth reaches only 20 metres, the archaeological pattern and value of pictographs here does not differ from all other karst caves in Cuba.

But the Saturna Cave has one huge advantage - a small but deep cave lake. It is over 17 metres deep, and it is the most popular dive and exploration spot for the Barracuda Dive Centre.

Anyone, wearing the necessary scuba diving equipment, can get into the underground underwater world, walk with scuba diving and get acquainted with the amazing inhabitants of the cave - blind fish and shrimps. If you do not like deep diving - in the cave lake you can just bathe, the water is a little cool, but very clean and has its healing properties.

Speleologists have long paid attention to the amazing microclimate of the cave, which is filled with both salty and fresh water. In the late 19th century, the Saturna Cave sheltered runaway slaves. And during the Cuban War of Independence, the cave served as the site of an emergency medical centre. Saturna Cave was chosen for this centre precisely because of its crystal clear lake water and underground river.
