Petra Tu Romiou, which translates as "Stone of the Greek", is one of the most romantic and beautiful places in the neighbourhood of Paphos. It is believed that this name is related to one of the Byzantine heroes, Digenis Akritas. It is said that at this place he managed to stop the Saracen Arabs, who were raiding the island between the 7th and 10th centuries. The legendary hero threw a huge stone directly at the enemies, who approached the shore in their boats, which is why this area became known as Petra Tu Romiu - this stone still rises above the sea water.

However, there is another, more romantic legend associated with this coast, which has another name - the Birthplace of Aphrodite or the Rock of Aphrodite. According to legend, it was there that the beautiful Greek goddess, born from the foam of the sea, came to earth. It is not without reason that one of her names is Cyprida.

Today this coastline is very popular among couples in love and honeymooners, who come there from all over the world. It is also believed that people who are single but looking for love can find their other half there. Romantics believe that if you find a heart-shaped stone on this beach, you will soon meet your true love. And if you swim round the Rock of Aphrodite three times in a row anti-clockwise, your wish will come true. The most important thing is not to confuse the cherished rock with other rocks, which are quite a lot in that place. "Aphrodite's Rock is a relatively small semi-circular dark stone rising above the water just a few metres from the shore.

And to stay young and beautiful, it is only necessary to swim naked near the rock on a moonlit night. However, you should be very careful, as the water in Petru Tu Romiu is quite cold and the waves are high and strong.
