The State Gallery of Modern Art in Nicosia stands out from the many museums and galleries in Cyprus, which display excavated works of art dating back to antiquity and the Middle Ages. It is located right in the historical centre of this ancient city, very close to the Venetian Walls. This museum has a truly unique collection of works by Cypriot artists and craftsmen who have been creating for a period of time since the late 19th century. There is also a large collection of works by very young Cypriot artists.
The gallery was established relatively recently in 1994 and is part of the City Art Centre, which is housed in the old power station building.
The collection of the museum has been collected over a long period of time, with the participation of museums, public organisations, artistic communities from Cyprus, Greece and other European countries. In the museum you can see works of different styles and orientations: painting, sculpture, installations. The main feature of almost all the exhibits presented in the Gallery is an amazing combination of art and modern technology. Special attention should be paid to the engravings made by modern masters - they imitate the engravings of the Middle Ages with such astonishing accuracy that only an expert can distinguish them.
From time to time the Gallery also hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists from other countries.

What is particularly pleasing is that admission to the Art Centre is free of charge.
