The Leventis City History Museum is housed in one of the buildings, which, back in 1882, the famous patron of the arts and art lover John Evangelides built for his three daughters. The building was later turned into a hospital, but it was abandoned. but over time it was abandoned. In 1983 it was bought and restored by the A.G. Foundation. Leventis Foundation specifically to house the collections of the City History Museum. Officially, the City Museum, named in honour of the foundation's founder, began operating in 1989. in 1989. Since 2000, it has been constantly expanding, so the institution currently occupies several buildings.

The City Museum is the owner of a truly huge collection, which is is entirely devoted to the history of Cyprus and especially Nicosia. Originally it consisted of of only 300 items, but over time, thanks to the help of public organisations and patrons, the current collection has been expanded to its present size. organisations and patrons of the arts, the current collection of the museum has more than 10 thousand unique and valuable items, through which it is possible to trace almost the entire history of the island. These are works of art, clothes, books, manuscripts, jewellery, weapons, household items and much more. The exhibits vary in age, with some dating back to 3900 years BC. However, the museum has a special focus on modern history.

The museum is quite famous and popular among local and foreign tourists, and in 1991 it was even honoured with the Council of Europe's "Best European Museum". It received this award for the most modern and daring design of its exhibition.
