The Czech Prague Castle is one of the most amazing places in the capital city of Prague. You can spend a whole day exploring it and still see a lot of things. One of the treasures of Prague Castle is a small cul-de-sac consisting entirely of small, toy-like houses. It is called Golden Street because, according to legend, alchemists settled here, making gold from completely unsuitable materials. But that's historically incorrect. In fact, goldsmiths and riflemen who served at the Grad lived here. A little later, small colourful houses were occupied by poor people who had no money to pay for normal-sized houses or rooms. They had to live in cramped, low rooms that faced the street.

However, not all residents of Golden Street considered themselves unlucky. One of the houses at number 22 is closely associated with the name of Franz Kafka, who came here to work - to write his stories, which were later included in the collection "The Country Doctor". He spoke very fondly of his secluded cottage in letters to his fiancée. He liked to go directly outside in the fresh snow and lock the door of the house, not a flat or a room. But Kafka still could not sleep here: the walls pressed and did not allow normal existence. So in the evening he would return home to Dlouga Street.

The houses on Zlatá Street are nowadays occupied by souvenir shops. There is a fee to enter this corner of old Prague, but after 6 p.m. the shops close and the employees go home, so you can walk along Zlatý ústÅ™ík for free.
