Miracle Lake as well as the valley in which is one of Dominica's new natural wonders. The locals call the lake the Holy Lake, as it was only recently created on a Sunday in 1997 and was created over 7 days.
There used to be a plateau, but during the heavy rains there was a landslide which created three tanks reservoirs that blocked a tributary of the Lajo River. Two of them later broke through, and the upper basin formed a magnificent new lake. It's quite large and far exceeds the surface of Lake Boirie and Fresh Lake, and reaches a depth of 140 lbs.
It can only be seen from above - scientists consider it dangerous to go down to it, as scientists who have observed it are unsure of the stability of the of the terrain. But standing at the top of the mountain, the view from the top is stunning of Marvellous Lake with its emerald water.
Both the valley and the lake are private. Christborn Shillingford, and it was his landlord who named the lake, officially called Mathieu Dam. The lake was formerly the site of the owner's the owner's plantations. You can try and negotiate with the owner to get him to give you and give you permission to visit the lake and take a guided tour of the area, as you can't go down to the lake without his permission.
