This beautiful waterfall is located near the village of Grand Fond, which is in the county of St David's. The village itself is of little interest, and is only visited only by those who want to see the wonderful Dernier Falls. The village is home to residents of the coastal village of Rosalie, and their descendants. Rosalie used to be on the sea front, but it was moved by the British to the mountains, where the Grend Foundation is now. On the site of the former village, only an Anglican stone church remains, which now houses a missionary training centre for missionaries and priests.
On the outskirts of the town. you'll see a sign for Dernier. There are waterfalls at every turn in Dominica, and only the most beautiful and unusual waterfalls have names, let alone signs. The road from the village to the falls is very steep - first the path goes up, and then it goes sharply downwards, with a height difference of over 300 metres. The road is maintained in good condition and your journey will not take more than 30 minutes.
Dernier is not the most full-flowing and largest waterfall on Dominica, but it is very notable for its location. It is located in a pit-like rock hollow cave, overgrown with dense thickets. As you walk down to the waterfall, it feels like you're in an unknown underground world. From above, it's covered by a dense canopy of trees. a canopy that the sun's rays can't penetrate. It's a cool and quiet is not marked on most maps of the island. The best time to walk to Dernier is in the early morning.
