Dominica's Morne Trois Piton National Park is located within the mountain of the same name in the south of the island. The maximum altitude of Morne-Trois-Piton is 1,389 metres above sea level. The park covers an area of about 7,000 hectares. The foothills and slopes of the mountain are overgrown with dense tropical forests and a variety of fauna. Within The park is home to two of Dominica's most famous lakes, Boiling Lake and Emerald Lake. Many of the lakes are formed in volcanic craters, as the park is located in a volcanic area. In the north of the park, there are a large number of these lakes, and there are also a number of remarkable waterfalls.

It's to preserve of this wonderful wildlife, the park was created in 1975. And in 1997, the park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The water bodies in the park are diverse: Boiling Lake, 3 freshwater lakes and many small crater lakes. Freshwater Lake Boeri is the highest lake in Dominica at 869 metres above sea level. It is the source of many underground rivers, its name appears on a British map in 1768. Lake Boeri has an almost perfect circular shape because it was formed in the crater of a volcano. Its total area is of about 4.5 hectares and an average depth of about 117lb. The landscape of the park is quite varied, there are many hot springs, picturesque rock formations with gorges and about 50 gas columns called fumaroles (vapour gas jets). In the park there is the Valley of Desolation, where there is a large area of fumaroles and there are 5 extinct volcanoes. It's the sulphurous gas emissions that prevent vegetation from growing here. vegetation here - the park's landscapes are rather barren and bleak. The rest of the island is covered in lush, dense forests. The name of the park translates as "three mountain peaks", each peak representing the mouth of an extinct volcano.
