On the outskirts of Oulu, about 35 kilometres away, there is a museum and recreated site of primitive man, Kierikki. This Stone Age Centre tells about Finnish culture and the life of people in that era.

As early as the 4th millennium BC, permanent settlements of people began to appear in Kierikki, whose numbers grew quite rapidly and whose main means of subsistence was seal hunting.

The Kierikki Building is one of the largest log structures in the world. It hosts various conventions and conferences. A hotel has recently opened here for tourists. In the restaurant you can taste homemade Finnish cuisine, and in the shop you can buy unique souvenirs and gifts.

Not far from the Centre, a Stone Age Village has been built based on archaeological excavations carried out in the area. Trails leading into the forest from the Village will take you past prehistoric bird and animal traps.

Visitors to Kierikki will also find an old archery range, where an experienced instructor will teach everyone the art of archery. And in the workshop you can try yourself as a master, seeing how arrowheads were made from improvised materials in prehistoric times.
