Mannerheim's saloon car was built in 1929-30 and was at the Marshal's personal disposal from 1939 to 1946. It consists of a saloon, five bedrooms, a kitchen and a toilet. On most trips the carriage was occupied by 1-2 people besides Mannerheim himself.
The service carriage of the commander-in-chief was part of a train consisting of a steam locomotive, two sleeping cars, a dining carriage, a staff carriage, an anti-aircraft carriage and a carriage for transporting carriage.
Mannerheim made more than 100 trips in this carriage. The trip of greatest public interest was the one related to his 75th birthday, during which he received personal congratulations from Adolf Hitler. His last Mannerheim travelled in this carriage when he was president in 1946.
The restored carriage is only open to visitors every year on 4 June, Mannerheim's birthday, from 10:00 to 17:00.
