The Cathedral is the main church of the Diocese of Mikkeli (South Savo). The red brick building with a tiled roof was designed by the prominent Finnish architect Josef Stenbeck and built in neo-Gothic style in 1896-97. The cathedral can accommodate up to 1200 parishioners within its walls.

The high bell tower was added to the western wall of the cathedral in the late 1960s. Inside the cathedral, in its western part, there is an organ made in 1956 at the factory in Kangasala.

In 1927, the town's residents laid out a public garden with a picturesque pond nearby. To this day, they still believe that by walking across the bridge over the pond, any wish will come true.
