The museum building was built by the architects Lindgren, Gisellius and Saarinen and is a marvellous representative of national romanticism, close to the Jugend style. The foyer of the building is decorated with frescoes based on the Finnish epic "Kalevala". The museum exposition tells about the history of the country from ancient times to the present day. It presents the most significant archaeological finds, stages of development of Finnish society and culture.
