The Pöukkölä Museum of Local History is located in Rovaniemi on the bank of the Kemijoki River, 35 km from the city centre, where the Pöukkölä manor house, which has survived to this day, was located at the end of the 19th century. The buildings on the estate - two barns, a barn and the main building - were purchased in 1957 by the Local Heritage Association. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1959.
The Pöukkölä Local History Museum reproduces the life of the population of northern Finland in the 19th and 20th centuries. The main traditional trades such as fishing, animal husbandry, including reindeer husbandry, and hunting are represented here. At the exhibition in the barn, visitors can see an interesting display of photographs showing the peculiarities of national handicrafts, the development of the food industry and the history of the town.
The museum is open to the public from June to August.
