The Rovaniemi Art Museum was opened in 1876. It is located in a former post office building, renovated by architect Juhani Pallasmaa and converted into a museum. A large part of the exhibition features contemporary Finnish art from the collection of the Jenny and Antti Vihuri Foundation, which already includes more than 2,000 works.
Special exhibitions focus on the work of artists from the northern peoples of Lapland. The museum organises events based on the interaction between science and culture, as well as the local multicultural community and the University of Lapland.
The museum welcomes visitors to the museum for a limited period of time.
The museum has a car park and a shop.
The museum is open to visitors with disabilities. Specialised guided tours are available for them.
