At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a sculpture of Maria Purpur, who managed to prevent the destruction of the church during the Crimean War.

For the natives, the church of St Nicholas is the oldest building in the city, known for its valuable and unusual icons, one of which depicts the face of St Nicholas against a seascape. The interior of the church symbolises the harmony of goodness, love, unity and peace.
