The church in Tornio is an old, well-preserved wooden church. It was built in 1886 and is considered one of the most beautiful in Finland. The architect Matti Herme dedicated its construction to Queen Eleonora.

The high roof of the church is covered with tiles. The bell tower is surrounded by five towers. In the 18th century, the French scientist de Maupertuis took measurements in Finnish Lapland to determine the shape of our planet, using the church bell tower as a base and the church spire as one of the reference points.

Visitors are attracted to the interior with its painted ceiling, carved wooden pulpits and brass chandeliers.

To the north of the Tornio Church is a water tower with an observation deck and café. The church is open to the public during the summer. In other seasons of the year, by prior reservation.
