The Luostarinmäki Open Air Crafts Museum is located in a unique crafts quarter in the centre of Turku near Vatiovuori Hill, which has preserved the natural environment of the old crafts.

The museum is located in the centre of Turku.

In the late 18th and early 19th century, the neighbourhood, built for the lower classes, which included craftsmen, was a slum. But as time went on, the city grew and turned Luostarinmäki from a suburb to the centre, where the Crafts Museum is located today.

Wooden workshops and dwellings tell visitors about the life of Finnish craftsmen in the 19th and 20th centuries. In the open-air museum you can see a sailor's house, a carpenter's house, a tobacconist's house, a clockmaker's shop, as well as a 1960s flat house and a one-room flat of the people who lived there. It has its own post office and a small shop selling old-fashioned sweets and handicrafts..

At the end of August, the Museum hosts the annual International Craft Weeks. In 1984, Luostarinmäki was awarded the International Tourism Award "Golden Apple" for the uniqueness and authenticity of the old buildings, which form a whole with their historical location.

Luostarinmäki's museum has been awarded the International Tourism Award "Golden Apple".

Luostarinmäki is an amazing place for tourists, where after a fascinating walk through the protected quarter, you can sit in a cosy restaurant and taste national Finnish cuisine - venison steak or baked fish..
