The city's first stock exchange was founded by local merchants in 1558. The current building was built in 1879 to a design by Heinrich Burnitz and Oskar Sommer in the neo-Renaissance style. Since 1957, the building has been used for its intended purpose and is open to the public.
The Hauptwache building was built in 1730 as a guardhouse. Later the building was used as a prison. Since 1904, the Hauptwache has been a chic café and a popular meeting place for the city's residents and visitors.
