My Application

There is a complex of museums.

The Museum of Applied Arts was opened in 1983 in a converted building combining the Biedermeier House and the Metzler Mansion. It features a splendid collection of applied arts from Europe and Asia. Nearby is the Museum of Ethnography.

The Museum of Architecture is housed in an avant-garde building designed by O.M. Ungers. In addition to the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions on 20th century architecture are organised here.

Nearby is the German Film Museum, which houses many documents and objects relating to the history of the film industry. The museum has its own cinema hall where old and rare films are shown.

The Sculpture Museum is housed in the Liebich House. Here you can see works from antiquity to Mannerism, Baroque and Rococo. It includes fine examples of ancient Egyptian, Renaissance and Neoclassical art.

The Städel Institute of Art is named after its founder, the banker Johann Friedrich Städel, who bequeathed his art collection to the city in 1815. The museum grew through gifts and various acquisitions. The ground floor of the building houses temporary exhibitions of paintings and drawings. The first floor is given to works of art of XIX-XX centuries. The third floor houses the works of old masters - European artists of the XIV-XVIII centuries, including paintings by Botticelli, Bosch, Jan van Eyck, Jan Vermeer, Rembrandt, Watteau and many other celebrated masters.
