St Spirit's Hospital is the best surviving medieval building of its kind in Central Europe. The hospital was built in 1280 with donations from the merchants of Lübeck. donations from Lübeck merchants and was designed to accommodate 170 elderly and poor people people. The building remained in use until 1970. In one part of the of the complex now houses a small orphanage.
In the western part of the hospital is the hospital church, built in 1286 1286, decorated with 14th-century frescoes of "Christ and the Madonna on the Throne", "The Almighty Lord" and late Gothic carved altarpieces.
