Budapest is the only capital city in the world with caves. Many of the caves are open to tourists. Scientists have said that 18 kilometres of large and small caves remain undiscovered beneath the city. And under the Buda Hills, a huge lake with thermal water rests at a depth of 50 metres, being part of the Molnar Cave.
Here you can see the third longest stalactite cave in the country (7,200 metres), the Palvöldi Cave, and the famous cave of Mount Semlehed, whose pisolite rock formations resemble bunches of grapes.
A cave and a system of deep corridors more than a kilometre long is also under the Buda Fortress. Between the half-million-year-old rock ceiling and the walls of the labyrinth of caves, various mysterious adventures await visitors.
