Baluran National Park is located in Sutibondo District, East Java Province. The county where the park is located is mostly dry climate, about 40% of the park is savannah, there are lowland forests, mangrove forests, and hills.

The more precise location of the park is the northeastern part of Java Island, near the islands of Bali and Madura. The park is bordered by the Strait of Madura in the northern part and the Strait of Bali in the eastern part. In the west, the Bajulmati River flows along the park's boundary, and the Klokoran River flows on the south side. In the centre of the park stands a volcano, Baluran, which reaches a height of 1,247 metres. This stratovolcano is the easternmost volcano of the island of Java.

The total area of the national park is about 25000 hectares. The park is divided into 5 zones: the main zone which covers 12000 hectares, the wildlife zone which covers 5537 hectares, of which 1063 hectares is water area. The next three zones of the park cover 800 hectares, 5780 hectares and 783 hectares each. There is a lake within this conservation park which includes sulphur.

It is recorded that there are about 444 species of plants growing in the park, among which there are some that are on the verge of extinction: the Indian date (Indian tamarind), lumbang, corypha (umbrella palm), plants of the genus Ziziphus. There are also many grasses growing in the area, including alang-alang, various species of blackberry, lianas, you can see coral tree and Unabi tree. The park is home to 26 species of mammals which include the banteng, wild dog, red wolf, Indian muntjac, Javanese lesser canchil, fisher cat, leopard and others. Among the birds, of which there are about 155 species, the Indian rhinoceros bird, the green peacock, wild chickadees and the Javan marabou are noteworthy.

The national park has its own mascot, the banteng bullfrog.
