The Arch of Augustus is a monument preserved from Roman times. The arch was put up in 27 BC after the completion of the road between Rome and the Adriatic coast. The main facade of the arch, on which the inscription "Golden Gate" is preserved, faces towards Rome. During the Middle Ages, the arch was used as a city gate in the fortress walls, fragments of which have survived to the present day.
