The Boboli Gardens were laid out in 1549 for the Medici family. In 1766, the gardens were opened to the public in 1766. The gardens are decorated with numerous statues, especially along the ancient cypress avenue of Viottolone. A marvellous hedge of boxwoods, groves of stone oaks and cypresses, fountains and numerous benches. create a wonderful atmosphere for relaxation. Above the park ensemble rises Belvedere Fortress, built in 1590 to a design by Buontaletti.
