The desert caliph palaces are another attraction of the country. There are about 30 residences (Qasr Amra, Qasr Harranah, Qasr Mushatta, Qasr Hallabat, Bayr, Mafraq, Mushash, Muwakkar, Tuba, Azraq Castle, etc.), once immersed in greenery and flowering gardens, and irrigated with the help of original irrigation facilities, some of which have survived to this day. Very interesting are the unique frescoes and mosaics in Kasr Amra (8th century, included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List), which are one of the best preserved examples of early Islamic painting.
