It is located on a mountain near Petra and is the first and largest Crusader castle in Zaïordania at the time. 150 kilometres south of Amman lies Kerak (1142), one of the best preserved and one of the largest Crusader castles and the main stronghold in Zaiordania. The huge fortress complex is located at an altitude of more than 1000 metres above sea level, gradually "merging" with the city buildings. It now houses the Archaeological Museum.
