For many years, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity has always been the most magnificent and monumental architectural monument in Liepaja. The construction of the church began in 1742. The first pile was driven in on 29 May, and on 19 July the main stone was laid. The architect was J. K. Dorn, and the assistant was M.Frelich. The church was consecrated on 5 December 1758. Only in 1866 the construction was completely finished.

For many years at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity there was an active parish. The activity of the parish did not stop, despite numerous wars, changes of epochs and political regimes.

Holy Trinity Cathedral is a unique construction. It has preserved its original appearance, without being subjected to any alterations or changes in the interior decoration. Only before the Great Patriotic War, during the existence of the German parish here. But the most valuable thing is that the most famous organ of the Holy Trinity Cathedral has been preserved as it was created. And it was built by the eminent organ builder H. A. Conciuss. The organ is famous for being the largest organ in the world until 1912, it was the largest organ in the world. Challenging its status as the largest organ in the world is the Sydney Opera House organ, which has 5 manuals, 125 registers and over 7,000 pipes.

The church with the amazing organ is proud of its organists. They are Rudolf Perle, who served the church almost all his life and amassed a magnificent sheet music library of sheet music. He composed a new cantata for each Sunday service. Janis Sermoukslis is another outstanding organist. He won a competition and for a quarter of a century and played the organ for a quarter of a century. The first female organist also deserves great attention. Maria Meirane and her pupil Tobije Jaugietis. Since 1939, when the Germans left Latvia. Latvia, he played the famous organ. During the war, Tobijs Jaugietis, together with his father. and his father were in the cathedral around the clock. They used to carry buckets of water to extinguish the smallest sparks coming in through the broken windows. They saved the church from destruction.

The German parish existed until 1939. Then there was a Latvian parish. The cathedral became the property of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church. In the beginning services were conducted by the priest Ernst Bans, who during the war time did it in Latvian and German. After the Great Patriotic War, the following evangelists worked here evangelists Arnolds Karlis and Ulpe Konrads, priest Karlis Daugulis. Priest Theodore Kalks was the leader of the parish for a long time. The services were also conducted by priests Voldemar Gutmanis, Ilmar KrieviƆš, Sigurd Sprogis, Sigurd Augstkalns.
