The Azure Window is a must-see attraction when on the island of Gozo. It is a natural rock with an arch that gradually eroded and eventually collapsed into the sea.

The Azure Window is located near Cape Dueira in the west of the island of Gozo. There is a motorway directly to the cape, with shuttle buses and tourist buses running along it, meaning that getting to the Azure Window will be very easy. There are no settlements in the vicinity of Cape Dueira, so you will only find curious tourists who climb the nearby cliffs, descend the stony, crumbling paths down to the bottom, where the waves noisily break into thousands of splashes when they meet the shore - all this just to take good pictures of the Azure Window.

The height of this rock, which protrudes into the sea, reaches 28 metres. It is made of limestone, which is not very strong. Right in the centre of this formation there was an arched opening resembling a window. Experts believe that in just a few years, the rock will become a small island. In 2012, during a storm, a large piece of rock fell off the underside of the vault, making it dangerous to walk on the rock, which many tourists like to do. Divers are often seen near the Azure Window.

This landmark of Gozo has been used as a setting in many films and TV series, such as The Odyssey and Game of Thrones.

On 8 March 2017, it was reported that the top of the arch had collapsed into the sea. The Maltese government emphasised several times that there was no way to save the Azure Window - neither artificial stone nor new technologies would help. So for several years the Maltese just waited for the "sad day". Now the beach looks empty and uncomfortable. One of Malta's popular attractions is no more.
