My Application

The church of St John the Evangelist, built in 1906, is located at the intersection of Rue Felix and Max Guedj. At its beginning, after its construction, the church stood in the midst of a field, which can only be guessed at, for now the church is surrounded by trees and partly covered by a wall, and stands in the very centre of the town - proof of the phenomenal growth of the town. The church, after its consecration, became a witness to the French colonisation of Morocco. After the invasion of tribes from central Morocco, the church was partially destroyed and looted, for example the organ and altar were destroyed. The church became functional again after French troops restored order. During World War II, the church housed Allied troops involved in the war effort, and American General George Patton donated a new altar for sermons in memory of the men of all nations who died in the Casablanca area.
